Copying source does not yield same results: Help required

Hello. I am trying to make my webpage similar to one already existing. I copied the source and made it an html document. Then I posted it on my server through FTP, and I get significantly different results. What should I do to change this? Here is most of the source code and the webpage:

It is a link to an external file called a CSS page. It determines how things look on a page. Without that, the page looks pretty much like nonsense.

You cannot simply copy a website and modify it, that's part of the reason why CSS styles are stored externally.

I understand, but if I have a css page for my site to reference from (similar to the one I'm trying to copy uses), then will I have the same results when I copy the source?
Also, when you pointed out this passage:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="/kvmlm2/css/layout-home.css">
If in the href section, I make the full address, for example:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" href="www.website.ws/kvmlm2/css/layout-home.css">
will that make a difference?

You have the right idea - I think that's possible but I've never tried. Try this:
