To be honest, none of them are particularly memorable or striking.

Any suggestions or ideas? Anything that would make the name memorable and striking?

That would depend on what the subject is and what the target market place is.

Right, so it's not some kind of security mechanism then.

I think you need to look at a more compelling font. Something catchy, more in tune with your business. The one you have now is too plain, too boring. I get the impression that your site is both about design and coding? Maybe try using two types of fonts? Though a bit cliche, a simple monospace font may work nicely for the "code" text. Maybe try throwing in some html characters? symbols? Think about font weights and kerning. All these play an integral role in a solid logo.

I understand you want to use the door icon in the logo, but dont get stuck on that. Keep your mind open to other ideas. With a strong font you may not even need an icon.

Alright, I will play with it. Do you have any suggestions for colors? It seems like any color I use messes up the vibe. I've looked up color schemes and used oranges greens and some white and it doesn't go with it. White may be the best one though with a little orange/red.

Here is one that I almost used. I'm not sure if it's any better.

I like that last one! How did you do the arrows? Is it a font? Did you use Illustrator or Photoshop?

Why does it have to be an overpriced Adobe product?

Being able to design graphics doesn't mean Adobe.

It doesn't have to be but those are the ones that I thought of on the top of my head.

All we need now is for the SEO "experts" to read this thread and understand the power of branding over "keywords".

When developing logos, I use Illustrator. The logo needs to be in a vector format, making it suitable for all mediums.

Overpriced? Debatable. Head of the market, definitely, hence the higher price. In many cases, designers/developers use Adobe products because they are well built, mostly bug free, and work well together.

i used fireworks actually - i'm a bit quicker in fireworks so usually start there then take it over to ili. it could of course as that old devil's advocate chris said be done in any vector app (inkscape, coreldraw....) but yes it was an adobe one ;)

the arrows are just rectangles modified with the shear tool, mirrored vertically to make the left pair, then both again to make the right pair.

the font is the free font droid sans http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Droid-Sans

donations can be made payable to a poor student with a wife and 3 young kids ;) (that's me... )

I never got into Fireworks and the now deprecated Freehand, maybe because they were very similar to Ps and Ai, and that they were originally Macromedia products. That being said, i believe that is also the case Dw but I use that quite often. Eh personal preference I guess.

Donations, lol I like that :D

I tried to do something similar and it didn't work out too well. It ended up looking like a pixelated ruff edged piece of crap. I guess I better leave the graphics alone. Unless you want to let me use that last one d a v e :D
