Why/How did YOU start Web Design?

I went to school for acting, worked professionally for about 5 years. Fell out of love for the business. In the interim I was working with a comedy group and I was the most tech savvy member of the bunch, so I took on the marketing materials responsibilities. I soon found those sessions far...

If you ask me, his greatest feat (Besides Pixar) was convincing a nation that their computers and devices were their friends. An excellent businessman.

    Homemade website needs advice

Completely agreed with font-embedding google web fonts makes it incredibly easy, but if you are interested in getting your hands a little dirty, one can easily generate the necessary files and host them yourself. dafont.com is another superb resource- just be certain to check usage restrictions...

    Albumography.com

My first thought is to go wiki with it: the project seems best suited for a crowd-sourced enterprise. Along those lines I like the black text on a white background with blue links you see on the standard wiki pages.

    The Drunk Project

It's a clever idea: and could be huge in the college market. I think the youtube content will be your bread and butter: drunkenness read is less entertaining than watched.

    Introduction

No, not discouraged at all. Thank you. This process was a classic case of too many chefs in the kitchen. I was working with the client through a liaison who was an international grad student (read: issues with communication via typed English). And she was just the point person representing an...

    Favorite Music

I find electronic music to be perfect for hours of coding. Particularly Dubstep and IDM. Nothic with heavy vocals. Specifically Four Tet, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada; mid to down tempo grooves with a little glitchieness. (yeaH, that's right...glitchiness.)

    Which one is to learn

    - Agreed. I am a staunch Miscosofter & Droid user, but still have a stigma against Flash: it just seems vulgar compared to JavaScript. Plus Flash in the hands of a novice is usually ugly.

    The market for freelancers

A tactic that has worked for me: if you can't seem to get paid, barter a design (or redesign) for the portfolio experience. They get a site, you get something (15 pizzas in one case...that was awesome) in return in addition to the experience. Plus you always have that indispensable marketing...
