    Is hostgator any good?

Read their TOS first before you bother with them, hostgator has a lot of restrictions and you need to make sure your site won't break any.

    Your web hosting provider?

Bad sign. Maybe you need to optimize your bandwidth and server side resources a bit first. Try shrinking files, and not offering huge downloads. If you're business/site HAS to have heavy loads then don't bother with unlimited plans at all, find a serious host that can handle it. Edit: Oh, and...

    Reusing graphics/divs on a page - newbie

Without server side scripting requires or JavaScript based elements you probably will need to copy and paste a lot of the same elements around. As far as I know anyway.

    My First website

The dark blue over black doesn't look so hot. There's a few HTML issues (you declared the DOC type though, good job). You need a message for when no JavaScript is available on the user's browser if you are going to do a JavaScript only menu (clicking your links without it takes me to dead...

How do I make my site easy for my client to update?

Searching for an automated html coding error program

I use that addon and don't bother with the W3C official validation at all. Reasons for that are simple, the "http://validator.w3.org/" is overused and slow as is, I can check my pages offline, and any errors that actually matter (Cross browser layout destroying) it's always found for me...

Switch hosts, unless you have some sort of timely deletions going on the fault is most likely theirs. It's OK to blame your host, sometimes they really are clueless.

First five steps in learning PHP

I've used metapad to web code a long time. PHP IDE's I tried were very slow on my old computer and even after switching to a new one I was in the habit of using this. Absolutely do not use the normal notepad though, the limited undos can really put you in a fix. I installed XAMPP and still...

Customized Form based on zip code

It sounds like simple header usage. for the server side code in PHP (after the form is set) you can do this. start.php(form here, user hits submit)>retrieval.php I'm going to assume two things, you used POST at the contact form, and that the text entry element was named "zip_code"...

Best online location to learn PHP?

Start with http://www.tizag.com/ Get used to searching http://php.net/index.php .And google will be your friend as well as asking for help. I find that there is -always- someone with the same problem as you somewhere, and it can usually be found just by changing the wording in a search.
