possible to setup "fake" ecommerce sites?

I'm getting requests for ecommerce sites, but the only thing I've worked with is Paypal. I know there's a lot of different shopping carts out there, and Wordpress ecommerce plugins and such, and I want to get a hang of using them. What I want to know is, what is the best way to learn how to...

Pricing, advice needed from those in the business longer

Makes sense to take into account the value of a website to the client. I've been doing websites mainly for individuals, and some small start-up businesses, and doing it as much to gain experience, to build my portfolio and for references as for money. Pricing is the one thing that gives me a...

Pricing, advice needed from those in the business longer

So, I'm getting to the point where I think I may actually be underpricing for my sites, and that I've found I tend to also underestimate the amount of time I'm going to end up putting into a site. Any body want to give me some tips on estimating time for the sake of coming up with a quote? Any...

    IE 7 sucks!!

Odd, but it does load slow in Chrome for me as well, though not too slow in my opinion. In FF however it loaded quite fast, and I usually find FF to be pretty much the slowest browser (I still like it despite that). I wonder why.

    Best Laptops for Graphic Designing

I've never had a computer with an AMD processor before, but I'm considering getting one in my next desktop PC, which I'll definitely be building myself. Do you think that they are just as good as Intel? Anything to watch out for with them?

How much would a site like this cost ?

Now that the link is working for me, yeah, since you aren't asking for a site to created from the ground up, just something relatively simple recreated, I wouldn't think it would end up costing all that much, though prices really do very pretty widely from one freelancer/design firm, to the...

Yeah, and I think it's been fixed now anyhow, or is anyone still having PM problems?

Beginner needs advice for learning PHP?

Thanks, I'm actually really familiar with WordPress as a CMS, and starting to learn Drupal, and since I figure I should be familiar with the three that I see requests for the most I'm looking into Joomla as well. Anyhow I've jumped in and started learning PHP, in some ways it's like C++, but...

    good graphic design books/resources?

Yeah, I've found a few good one's that are Photoshop specific, and I'll keep hunting around for more, not necessarily Photoshop specific ones. I also went and bought that Graphic Design for Non-Designers book, and some Photoshop and other graphic design magazines. I'm thinking of taking some...

Looking for feedback on my portfolio site

Actually looks wise I think it is very nice. However it does rely too heavily on Flash in my opinion, and music/sound fx that aren't off by default are generally considered bad design, and can be annoying, regardless of whether the sound is even good quality or not. Something similar without...

Experiences with bidding on freelance job sites?

Yeah, I've gotten most of my jobs from word of mouth and Craigslist too. Sounds like experiences with these sites are generally not great, that's what I'm reading other places too so far. Well, worth trying just about anything once though I suppose. Edit: Wow, people have some absurd...

Experiences with bidding on freelance job sites?

I've joined a few freelance job board websites, on which you bid for jobs. I'm curious about other peoples experiences with such websites. Guru.com is an example of one such site, freelancer.com is another. Anyone care to share? Any tales of caution? Obviously I should avoid the people that...

    Best website design

I like 2 the best, the only thing I notice off is that the numbers in the menu are cut off on the bottom. I actually would like the header design in 1 better, except way too much bright lime color for my taste. Personally I think it would probably look great in blue or red. There probably are...

    my first website

It's a good start, but I have to say that the somewhat light gray text on a white background is really hard to read. I know you didn't make the theme from scratch, so you might not yet know how to change the color of the font (?), but I really think it would help a lot to make it darker. I...

best way to learn about properly using shopping carts?

So, quite a few web jobs want someone with experience using shopping carts, and various online payment systems, but what I'm wondering is what is the best way to learn how to use these things? Do most of shopping carts /online payments systems have a way to get them set up without actually...

best ISPs for doing your own webhosting?

I can't learn how to do something myself by just going with another provider, so cost effective or no that doesn't accomplish my goal. My primary reason is because I like to understand how things work, and get hands on experience with them. At least at first it will really just be a hobby...

best ISPs for doing your own webhosting?

Yes you are definitely correct, and I know there are definitely some that do. But even if my current service doesn't forbid hosting, it's not a good option for it anyways, much too slow, and not the most reliable service in the world either. That's why I'm looking for something else, or to...

    HTML Frames Problem

yes, I agree a good short answer is to not use them. The only reason to use frames anymore that I can think of is if you want to be sure that on the rare occasion you are requested to create them for a client that you know how. But anyone actually demanding frames is pretty unlikely these...

    Your web hosting provider?

I'm using multiple hosting services at the moment. Fatcow for a few websites. Yes they are "unlimited" but I've actually had really good luck with them, and they are pretty good especially considering they are really cheap. Still I'd rather just be told a set amount I have, rather than worry...
