    Remove subdomain from url

Worked perfectly! Thank you so much! I cant do it in Apache, because I don't want every url to drop the subdomain. Just for certain links on the page that are generated by my cms, which is installed on the subdomain. I have one more question: How would you take that domain (minus the...

What's the deal with Google vs. Yahoo Ranks?

For one of my sites, 20 keywords are first place in Yahoo, and several more in Bing. But Google isn't so gracious. My Rank Tracker reports only show 3 keywords in Google, and they are in position 85-100. I know Google gives more weight to backlinks, of which I have few. But I'm baffled...

Is there a faster way to build links then just going site to site?

Make sure the page you're getting the link from has been indexed by Google. If it hasn't then your efforts are pretty much useless. I use Google's blog search to find good sites to leave comments, in which I include anchor text links back to my site.

Is W3C Validation important for SEO?

W3C validation is VERY important for SEO. Google works hand in hand with the W3C in developing its Googlebot spiders that crawl and index the web. Valid sites have a better chance of search spiders crawling more pages without experiencing hangups. If the spider hits a snag caused by bad...

    301 Redirect concerns

I read that 301 redirects will also pass along page rank. Will a lower page rank be passed along to a higher ranked page, and override it? I have two nearly identical sites, one is very old and has established links, but traffic has fallen drastically since I stopped promoting the site...

SEO with phasing out old site and making new site with same content.

If you're not concerned about losing rankings, then starting fresh is the best way to go. Add a message to each page notifying visitors of the switch. Then do 301 redirects on the old site once the new site is finished.

    What to do next?

I like the background design, but that should be the last thing you create, not the first. Successful web design begins with a plan before ever jumping into photoshop. Follow the 5 d's of design: 1: define the problem, 2: do research (find sites you like), 3: develop the structure and layout, 4...

    Nightmare Weaver

What specifically makes you think Dreamweaver is causing these issues? First, make sure your pages are using a current doctype. Most current browsers are optimized for pages using doctypes of xhtml 1.0 transitional or strict. Doctypes are usually declared in the head section at the very top of...

    Which CMS Best Suits Me?

I reccomend Joomla to any designer looking for a stable, scalable cms. Plus, there are lots of great ready-made templates out there for you to customize if you have basic css knowledge. Wordpress is also popular, but difficult to expand if you want more functionality. If you are a web designer...

Build template site for sale from ground up or with CMS? Please help with advice.

I would definately use a php based cms like joomla or wordpress. I built a real estate site in Joomla, with help of the component called Mosets Hot Property. And if you build the joomla site based on a high quality ready made template, its cake to change the look and feel for your customers. I...

What knowledge would be required to build a website such as this one?

Joomla would work better than Wordpress for your staff login requirements. It's also a more flexible cms than Wordpress. The great thing about wp or joomla is that there are many high quality ready made templates available that have all the scripting and coding built in. Just edit the...

Disallowing images to be downloaded from a website?

Do you mean displaying these files on a html page, but not allowing people to save them? If so, then I don't know of any techniques to keep pdfs from being downloaded. For images, the only way to do this through CSS by declaring a background image for an html tag. Use the css style attribute...
