Need image gallery menu help : a stable replacement for frames?

Good luck with it Zetter Keep in mind that while AJAX isn't SEO, neither are frames... If you were to provide a page on your site that loads the content dynamically on the server side (from either a database or xml) rather than client side technology (like AJAX or iFrames) you would keep...

    Flowing table cells

#1 - Why tables? Use css divs instead #2 - Depending on the level of complexity desired this effect could be done either server or client side, it's really up to you how you want it set up, but I think the best way would be to create an xml doc from db query, and display content based on that...

    Freelance or Full-Time?

Thanks for the response everyone! Walkingbird, good luck with your own career & thanks for the advice - actually, I did a freelance job last year that I got by responding to a non-profit :) I think I'll most likely take your advice and do freelance around my other job - it's super laid back...

    Freelance or Full-Time?

A little about my background, I’ve been designing graphics since 1999, websites since 2002, as a kind of hobby. I know my way around LAMP, xhtml, css, and have been working most recently with as3 and javascript. My biggest problem it seems is that I’m self taught, and even if I could afford to...

Need image gallery menu help : a stable replacement for frames?

Hi zetter - AJAX is a model of exchanging information more efficiently between the client computer and your website. Rather than refreshing each page- reloading navigation, etc. - specific elements are refreshed instead. By setting up your gallery this way, the browser would replace the...

Need image gallery menu help : a stable replacement for frames?

If you're refreshing the entire page, then it will display your thumbnail column from the start each time... Which brings up the AJAX question: Have you tried setting up your gallery with Prototype or Spry? That would be your best option in terms of usability, and you could also set up a...

    No Centering!

To add to Streamline's solution: If you define a width < 100% for the containing <div> and set it's side margins to auto, this will center the div. Setting text alignment to center will center the content within that div. So: <div style="width:800px; margin:auto; text-align:center">...

Thanks litews. Glad you liked it :D! I was worried about it being too much, but wanted an element on the page to quickly grab attention & decided on the flash effect. The swf is a combo of AS & timeline animation, blending options, masks, etc...

new site layout let me know what ya think

Agreed... I know it's the same comment everyone's made so far, but this can't be over-emphasized - Make sure to resize & optimize your images! Other suggestions: Display links in menu as block; Add some padding to the reviews page; This site is a bit plain for my tastes... maybe spice it...

Thanks hhotek - you're 100% about the text in the nav buttons - I'd forgotten to embed the font and didn't realize it until I checked from another computer. It's looking more like it should now since I fixed the font & restyled the layout using floats instead of relative divs + margins.
