Best Website Pageview Counter

I would like to have a pageview counter on all pages of my website that displays the total number of pageviews on the site. I have seen several free counters, the problem is that they seem to only track pageviews on one page of the site. I would like one that can display the total pageviews on my entire site on each page. In addition, I heard that many of the free counters have links that can harm your SEO.

Could I program my own or is there somewhere I can get one that works on all pages without harming SEO? I see google analytics seems to be able to track total pageviews, so if only I could display the Google Analytics on my site.

Thanks

Best Website Pageview Counter?

None at all

And "SEO" is absolutely nothing to do with whether you have a 'page counter' or not

the problem is that they seem to only track pageviews on one page of the site.
They count the visits to the individual URL you have the script code on.

Man, there is more garbage 'published' that is supposedly about "SEO" and that article is just another instance of so-called "experts" spouting pseudo scientic drivel dressed up as fact.

Search engine teams are already aware of such counters, 'widgets' and 'useful tools' and simply ignore them, they know that site owners/operators are not deliberately hiding links.

I was hoping to give viewers a chance to see how popular the website is

Oh please, you don't really think that visitors are going to keep coming back just to watch the numbers change.

No, but I would put it discreetly in a corner. There is obviously a huge difference between a site that gets a couple hundred pageviews, and one with hundreds of thousands. Plus, if I offer advertising, it makes it easier for any potential clients to see how my website is doing without having to go through the trouble of emailing me and asking for analytics.

Is there a way to display a counter with the total number of pageviews on my website on each page or not?

Ok, so absolutely nothing at all that you can use to create a counter that is completely self contained.

I'll ask you a question, because this always puzzles me, why is it that people who have websites that they are serious about, (I assume) are not willing to spend the niggardley sum of $3 (<£2.50) a month to have server scripting and database capabilities?
Hell, I'll even undercut 50Webs by 50 cents a month and sell space on my VPS (I take PayPal ;) )

When I first started web design, I had no experience so I wanted to spend the most minimal amout of money. Over those two years, I've grown tremendously, but am still only really knowledgeable in HTML and CSS, and am starting JavaScript. Until I learn other langauges which need more functionality, 50webs has met my needs. I would like to upgrade, just not until I feel I can make full use of the additional functionality which would be when I learn additional, and more advanced langauges, hopefully in the near future.

Nonetheless, can I do what I am asking with the current hosting? Seethestats.com seems to do somewhat of what I want, but I was hoping for something a bit cleaner looking. If that answer is no, what functionalities do I need to get? Keep in mind, I want this to be very simple, just a pageview counter that looks a lot like the hit counters but counts total pageviews on the entire website and can be put on every page.

Nothing other than the likes of StatCounter, W3Counter or Free Counter Code plus dozens that come with lots of restrictions, sponsored links, (some of which you really would not want your visitors clicking on. Because the 'sleazier' the market place, the more they are willing to pay)

To create your own, server side scripting is needed at a minimun (Perl, PHP, ASP.NET, Python etc.) where the data can be written to a flat file, next step up would be database access (MSSql, Postgre, MySQL, Oracle etc.) though Oracle Servers are more expensive.

The majority of 'free' page counters do just what the name implies, count individual page views, I can't say I've ever heard of one that inflates 'page views' to 'site views' and displays that on every URL.

I would like to upgrade, just not until I feel I can make full use of the additional functionality which would be when I learn additional, and more advanced langauges, hopefully in the near future.
Take it from me, whilever they are not available, you won't have the 'need' to start using them, but once you do have them available you will start to learn them simply necause the "I'm paying for this, .... I'd better start doing something with it." instinct will kick in.

Have never used it and not likely to, I can't really qualify it as being 'best' but if it suits your needs and their promotional rhetoric appears to suggest it does, try it and see.
