New Website Design Compare and Contrast

11px text is too small - even for young guys like you :)

the background is just too distracting - and now you've added more in the column and it has a gap it looks cluttered.

colums/boxes need more padding and some more line-height would be weclome - you have a lot of text and you want people to be able to read it easily and comfortably: white text ona black background is tiring - tone the background and text back a little say #e0e0e0 on #333

note sure about the standard visited link colour (purple) doesn't fit the site colour scheme - how a bout a mid grey but still red on hover?

don't like the gaps between the buttons on the nav (when you hover over and they drop down) it makes them look broken

it does look a lot better than before but still needs a little tweaking ;)

Thank you SOO much for your feedback. That is exactly what I was looking for. I took a lot of your suggestions and implemented them in the website and I do think it is a lot better. If you wouldn't mind taking a look at some of my changes www.ninjawarrior.info/navtest.html and letting me know if that is along the lines of what you are looking for, that would be incredibly helpful to me.

The one thing I didn't change was the background, because I do feel like it is an integral part of the feel of the website, but I see where your comng from. I'm unfamiliar with the term line-height but I did try to add some more spacing.

Thank you so much for your help so far.

Hi Etangins,

Firstly I love your ethos and what your trying to promote through your website. Good job!

I have to agree with @d a v e to be honest regarding the background its just way to distracting. Also with what you have done with your logo/header illustration it doesn't really match the feel of the photography based background images.

I hope this helps

Thank you for your feedback as well. I'll try to do something about the background. What would you recommend doing. I don't want to make it bland with a plain color but if a high resolution image is too distracting, what would be a good balance? Should I go with a gradient or would it be better to find a less distracting image? I could even do a plain background witha few images to give it a little liveliness. Also, would changing the background help fix that issue you mentioned with the logo/header illustration?

Thank you for your suggestions.

I can see that. Perhaps I could also just have a white background and add some images to make it pop. Did I fix everything else?

do you really want your background to pop? if it's in the background it shouldn't distract from the main site

if the images are that important then put them there in the content.

Fair enough. So what I think I'll do is just fade the background a little and I'll make that the new website design.

Thank you both so much for your help. It was exactly what I needed.

I fixed it. Dreamweaver didn't upload on save. Also, I am not planning on using those Grey rounded boxes (on the content not the ones on the sidebar) on the other pages of the website except in rare circumstances because I think it over complicates things. Do you agree?

Not a problem. Thank you for taking the time to make those changes. I see one of the things you did was change the content background from white to a dark grey. The problem is, I was planning on putting black text on the white background (the grey bubbles were only supposed to be for the homepage where I wanted to break content into bubbles) for the rest of the pages (e.g. www.ninjawarrior.info/salmon_ladder1.html www.ninjawarrior.info/unstable_bridge2.html www.ninjawarrior.info/obstacles2.html which are all rough drafts). I'm afraid putting having that grey background might make some of the more content intensive pages like those with many images hard to read.

I really like the sideways logo, it's a really nice touch. Do you think that the orange background blends in well though? I almost feel it might be better to desaturate the current background or blur it a lot like www.ninjawarrior.info/navtest2.html.

On any note, I really appreciate the suggestions.
