Please review this website: work in progress

Hi Guys,

I'd really appreciate your help!

How can I improve this design? My client's been a bit difficult and deviated from the original design (a very modern clean simplistic design), and a second design (which he approved then unapproved) and said he wants the site be a bit similar to cia.gov in terms of layout and colour.

This is my third site now for this client, so I'm feeling a bit defeated and demotivated and uncreative at the moment due to all of these changes and extra pressure. I'd just like to finish this and move on and I'd appreciate your expert feedback!

I've just kept it very simple as I've been busy with the layout of theme and responsive design - it's a wordpress site - so now I'm ready to make it look nice!

I was thinking vector images with taglines since they don't have photographs for the slideshow yet.

How can I add some spark or wow factor?

Here's the link: http://bit.ly/SJgKZi

Thanks

your logo is popping out of its box.

i'd remove the scrollbar on the content.

your hover menu wont be very successful on smaller devices and the links provided on the top level pages are too small. there is also not a great deal of content in all those sub pages and there also isn't any direct navigation through all the subpages, so I would suggest they stay as just one page anyway (or at least make the food all one page)

I'd remove the underline in the navigation.

the header boxes for "our brands" and "about us" should line up with the slideshow and the paragraph.

It might look better if you move the slideshow up to the top even with the blue box. with the very top white space intact. Right now there is a whole lot of whitespace with nothing there and it just looks out of place.

The quicklinks could be a few shades of grey darker. They probably could be placed into a sidebar so that the content and stuff could sit beside it.

The titles on the pages could have a background like on the CIA's site. Not necessarily a manilla folder tab, a gradient could probably work just as well.

The logo could drop down to where it sits above the quicklinks and beside the navigation?

#Container can stay white, but the body background could be darkened a bit, even if it's just to #EEEEEE, to reduce some glare. Stark white sites can be painful to look at after a while.

So; this theme that you have now link dropped three times, by some strange twist of fate, it wouldn't happen to be one that you get paid for each time it gets used or downloaded would it?

Nice Start

I would consider shrinking the size of the horse in the logo, if possible try the logo in one, or two solid colors and make the text larger -

Also shrink the size of the header overall

I would also move the slider to the left side, links to the right and have them on all pages-

The home page needs a bit more to connect with the visitor, beyond just the about blurb -

Add a larger footer with some valid links, possible all your 'brands' greyed out from left to right (with a blue BG) - Also your 'quicklinks' and Contact Us' might work well in the footer - Then you make your slider full width also. Beneath a full width slider you may focus on 2 or 3 small blurbs that then link to your divisions and careers pages..

Please disregard the reply on here from 'Shadee' - To quote another "he's trying to prove a point in a childish way in an attempt to regain his wounded ego"

The info he posted was my reply to his thread (which he was unhappy with).

Lots of suggestions but here are a few - Your logo should be a link back to your homepage (always!). Your slide show needs to be centered and not off its borders. Your 'divisions' tab needs a write up detailing what you guys do a bit further before someone is willing to click on those three vary differing tabs. Good luck.
