Hi all,

Please review my new blog Web Design Inspiration Today. It is a simple blog contains gallery of design showcases and also articles about web design tips, tutorials, etc.

Since it is just a month age, I'm pretty sure there is a lot to work on. I look forward to your feedback. Critics, comment, suggestion on feature, content, layout design, and else are really welcome.

Thanks before :)

I just read you page - "Improving Your Website’s Performance and Speed".

I'm surprised you recommend using online services to "minify" scripts. A dedicated optimizer application doesn't cost very much and will optimize more or less everything in one shot - including JPGs and PNGs if you choose to.

Your "caret" tutorial should inspire those who still use images for speech bubbles and navigation indicators to move on to more efficient ways to create these.

You might consider taking a tip from Chris Coyier's tutorial. The way in which he lays out the classes for the various directions makes it a lot easier to understand - and to grab the right one in the heat of the moment!

I'm also surprised to know there is such a application. Could you show me the name of the application?

Yeah sorry for bad writing. I don't usually write, so I am just not good yet at writing. I will try better :)

Thanks for feedback anyway, do you have something about the layout?

I will work on search feature soon and still browsing a robust Wordpress Plugin to do the feature.

Thanks Roddy

I really like the layout. The only one thing I dislike, is how you have a mixture of english/spanish posts, as an english only reader, this would deter me from your website.

Really? I don't realize I wrote any Spanish in my web. Could you give a link which part I did the Spanish?

By the way, I'm from Indonesia, which English is not really my mother tongue. I will try better next time :) Thanks

I'm not really sure what you want opinions on - the design or the content.

I assumed that it was the content since the design is a Wordpress blog - just like all the other thousands out there - with the standard layout and huge amounts of wasted white space.

I'm surprised, as a designer, you didn't consider one of the responsive designs. The basic free one is actually not too bad although a lot of smart phone users complain that the drop down style menu is too clumsy and I tend to agree.

There's a growing number of people out there using portable devices who don't actually posses a computer but a lot of website owners don't appear to have realized it yet.

Everything, the design (simplicity, ease of use, friendly navigation, layout) and also the content (filters, and other features).

"Standard", do you mean 2 columns layout? I have own reason not being just a "standard". It's usability. I have the first design of 1 column layout, without any sidebar. And it got tons of critics. People love easy navigation, and sidebar is the right place for it. I hope that makes sense.

What do you mean of "wasted white space"? I believed white space should be used effectively. So which part of my page is "wasted white space"? I need details :)

Yeah, I know about responsive and have an experience on it. However this is just first step. The blog is still a baby, and making responsive design is not my highest priority now. The main purpose of this blog is not the responsive design, but the features and contents. So I don't want having a responsive first, while the main features still sucks. Responsive will come later after all features working well.

I've noticed that those who design the stock Wordpress templates tend to space everything out in the layout and no doubt they have good reasons for it since these are for people who can't design and build their own sites.

Items should be spaced out to suit the actual content which is why its not very desirable to use a template in the first place. I think web page content should be balanced and pages with long skinny columns with a huge expanse of empty space to the right or left are definitely not.

Those who don't have the necessary knowledge to adjust the layout to suit the content can at least adjust the content to suit the layout.

Mainly I was referring to the large amount of wasted space in the sidebar on the landing page. This could be avoided by having less entries in the main content or sticking an exciting widget or two into the empty space in the sidebar.

Good call Roddy,

"I think web page content should be balanced and pages with long skinny columns with a huge expanse of empty space to the right or left are definitely not."

Yep I realized it. But a blog has dynamic length of content, apart from static content web page like in a company profile, product page, or some sort of that. If you see Facebook, you will also see that the left bar are not seen as you scrolled the page down. Because everything on the main column (the feed) is really dynamic. I hope that makes sense.

Yes. The right sidebar is not done yet. I will add some widget, like advertising, social connect, or so to make it more balance with the left column. I also intend to rework the landing page (home) to differs from archive page.

I will consider everything you said. I am not really an amateur web designer, yet not also an expert one. So every feedback will really guide me to a better work. Thanks!
