Okaaaayyyyy then.

A "social network" for cats??????

I'll be sure to pass the URL on to Gordon Shumway, I happen to know that he is particularly fond of cats.

I'm not really sure if it will be a success. Why not make it for cats and dogs? Not just cats. Dogs are more popular than cats worldwide.

a few years back (2009 I think) there was an offshoot off facebook.
catbook, dogbook, fishbook, birdbook, etc.
it was a third party plugin that attached itself to your facebook profile.
it was a nice little joke at the time but you know, it got pretty tired pretty quickly.
i think your flogging a dead horse (yes there was a horsebook too)

as for "tips"
1. dont ever stretch images...
2. dont ever use comic sans. ever.

I think it will have a nice little niche and since I've never even heard of catbook (sorry for my ignorance Phreaddee!) then I'd say there is market share still to grab.

There are so many videos on Youtube about cats and many other animals. So I think building your own Youtube channel featuring cats be a good way of marketing. Then you can link it to you facebook page specifically for cats also and do some Twitter viral posts. This will catch people's attention with similar interest and you'll get a chance to invite them to join your group.

Honestly I think the site is exactly what you'd need for your niche. I think if you try to make it perfect or professional you'll lose that feel and attractiveness. As long as the functionality is spot on I think you'll have some success here. That's not to say that some things shouldnt be cleaned up, but don't over do it. As someone said I believe...I've never heard of anything like it. So if you can get it out there you may find a nice small community of dedicated users.
