Tell me what you think (new site)

Hello guys

I'm wrapping up a new site and figured I'd post for review.

There are still some things that are needed to be done (other than content) such as all the finishing seo touches, contact page functionality and IE repair (if I bother to go any further with IE). The gallery will need some sort of image loading indication as well. Also Opera has issues. Damn maybe I should be waiting to post this the list is bigger than I thought, haha.

From my tests it is responsive to browser resizing, and mobile OS although it's a bit slow on the iPhone 3GS.

Thanks Leroy, I know what you are saying. It is a bit and mainly for two reasons, affordability, and sustainability. It's being developed as a update for one of my first customers who I finally got to agree to a new site that is a bit more tailored to the mobile world. I didn't want to go over the top due to price verses effort and also to maintain a simple more elegant look that will hopefully keep it's appeal a bit longer.

I have to agree. The idea of any site is to put “asses in the seats”,and If I saw that site, I’d just move on. Do some split testing; I bet the bounce rate would be high on the grey site. When you think tropical fish, you think lively bright colors and warm sands and all the rest that goes with it. This site portrays rainy day more and it doesn’t reflect the product it’s selling. Way too cold.

Only thing that I like it on that website is the menu. But I like how it moves, not how it looks.

You have to bring that website to life.

If you can't make a good combination of tropical colors, try to use white as a background and a header with a nice combination of pictures with colorful marine creatures.

I think it's a bit redundant to have the logo that says "Vances Tropical Fish" on the left and the address with the big heading "Vances Tropical Fish" on the right. Then you have a "Welcome to Vances Tropical Fish"....too much mention of "Vances Tropical Fish". I would try replacing the "Vance's Tropical Fish" address heading with the logo.

The "Store Hours" and copyright info should use the same font as the address.

why does the menu items border overhang the page, and why are the menu items bg transparent? this looks weird to me. also I would talk to your customer about investing in a new logo, the current one is a little abstract for my tastes.

HTML seems clean though, except for this line:
<noscript>Javascript is currently disabled in your browsers settings. This website does not function properly without Javascript enabled.</noscript>
perhaps try dropping the period at the end of this line?

..... wha?! You're against proper grammar?

I like the header, a nice shade of blue! But I agree with a few other users, it is a bit boring. It could do with some nice images to brighten it up a bit. I also do not like the menu, it is not intuitive or obvious enough.

I also don't like the use of Times New Roman font!
