Hey Everyone. Im designing a very simple website for someone for photography. The whole website is jsut going to be really simple. The only hard thing about it is the portfolio part. They are wanting to have a portfolio for all their photography work and wanting it to be seperated by categories so youll have Landscape, portrait, nature, etc. Im looking for an easy easy way of her being able to upload photos and it be shown on the website immediately with out her or me having to add lines of code to code the photoname into the link and such. Im not familiar much with php or anything.

You should look at different Content Management Systems (CMS) like Wordpress, Joomla, or Drupal. There are other, much smaller CMS's, that will do the trick but the more popular ones are those three. I've done alot of work with Wordpress and photography portfolios are super easy in Wordpress!

so is it easy for them to login to a webpage and click upload and select a photo on their computer and upload and select an album for it to be associated with? as well as create other albums or categories shall i say and then upload photos to that category?

Is there a WP theme you know of i can check out (preferably free) that basically when u click on the main nav link called portfolio it goes to a webpage that has links on the left like Landscape, nature, portrait etc and when u click them either it takes u to a webpage specific for that category with a back button to return to previous page or click the link on left and pics for that category only show on right side and u can click the picture to see a bigger image of it?

Thats pretty much what im looking for but have the ability for her to login to a back door or something where she can say upload photos and she selects which category to associate the photos with and click upload after category and photos are selected and shes done. Shes very very not so much of a techno geek and doesnt understand alot of it so im trying to make it as easy as possible.

Shes got hosting service with hostgator.com already as well as her domain name so thats covered.

There are plenty of places where you can find free themes, not doing that legwork for you. If you want some specific though you'll have to build it yourself. Wordpress themes are definitely the easiest of the major 3 CMS templates to build and artist portfolios probably the easiest of those. Real simple stuff man I promise.

Wordpress has plugins with light boxes (where you click the image and it pops up bigger) and I'm sure you could build the template the way you want it.

My first ever live site was wordpress for an artist portfolio. It's very poorly coded and very poorly designed but it still has most of the functionality you want :p check it out.

It doesn't have categories (I was really bad back then) but it easily could. This will be redesigned soon too because I feel like I did my friend an injustice with this lol

But ill check some out. i found one that was close to what i wanted but will need redesign a little bit though. Ill have to check it out once i get WP installed. Thanks

Should have put a winky face after the legwork comment. Wasn't meant to be malicious.
