co domain name for Marketing and SEO

Would any buy a .co domain name?

I just don't think they have the ring to them when creating a website name.

For example if i were thinking of a new business name I would have serious doubts registering a .co name if my chosen domain name had been taken. I would much rather a .com or .co.uk

Especially as the prices are higher. Maybe as they are relatively new it will take a while for them to become part of the domain lingo like .net and .org etc.....

What are your views on this? Has anyone had any success marketing a .co domain? And what impact do they have on SEO?

I have had a few clients ask me about it, and I'm just not sold on it yet. My biggest fear is that someone who has never heard of a .co extension, would think it was a type-o and try to go to the .com URL, which could potentially be a competitor.

Thats what i think to the distinction seems less clear..... or if you were talking to someone on the telelephone with bad reception they might think you were saying the first half of co.uk

It doesn't seem to have been widely picked up and used so far, though I have seen a few sites using it. Though with good SEO being a .co shouldn't make any difference to being a .com

.co is fine. I don't see any issue with it. Domain extension has nothing to do with SEO. It doesn't matter whether you use .co or .com or any other extensions. Ranking is mostly based on the quality backlinks and contents.

The domain you use for a your web site can have a huge impact in the way that humans and search engine spiders perceive it. Domain names were once so expensive that only those wanting to protect a brand or who could afford them owned them, now they are commonplace and if you know where to look, you could pick up a domain name for free.

That's exactly what I thought about...I think for most people .co is some of an unheard thing, and I don't think it's a good choice for a site. Marketing such uncommon domain would be way harder...

Where can you pick them up for free? Are you referring to sub domains?

I have not seen any popular sites ranking on .co domains. If i am in the position to choose either .com, .net, .org and .co ill prefer TLDs on the domain order listed.
