nice work on completing your first site!
you might want to optimise your images for web as they load quite slowly.
you also might want to put all your styles into a seperate stylesheet rather than in the header. that way it doesnt have to be reloaded with every single page, thus loading faster.otherwise pretty good for a first effort!

The Html part seems simple, but ur right about the CSS, a bit more intense. CSS meaning photoshop right? would it be shitty if I used templates and created it that way or would he be able to tell that it was made that way??

thanks alot for ur advice, appreciate it BIG TIME.

yeah you can do it...I mean I hope you can do it!
so you've got about 4 weeks. you dont need to learn everything, just enough to get you by. you'll just need to approach it methodically. the basics of html you'll more than likely get pretty quickly, the css may take a little while, but you should be able to master the basics quick enough. 3-5 pages is a good sized site to start with.
he'll need a domain - let him sort that, but through a reputable domain reseller, the cheap ones will only give you dramas. and he might be able to get hosting with that package, if its only 3-5 pages he will only need a min hosting solution.

    hehe! wow, thats fun.
first of all you will need to know basics of html and css.
the specs can be found at w3.org or if thats too dense try the tutorials at w3schools.com
get the scope of the website. for 500 it should only be a small site, if he's requested shopping carts, forums blah blah he's asking too much.
if the client wants to update his site in the future then it would be best to get a cms to work with. wordpress, joomla and drupal are all great but then will require you learn PHP, so better to try out cushycms it works with basic html sites.
ALWAYS design with your gut and not with trends. if your strengths are hand-drawn sketches then draw how you want the site to look on paper then try and replicate it.
always mock up a prototype first otherwise it'll gets very messy very quickly.

also you should check out grid systems. look up 960gs on google. brilliant.

message me with any q's more than happy to help.
    also whats your timeframe???

    cheers
    dan
