Default US & UK 1&1 Web Hosting

Ok, i'm gonna get a website with 1&1 and i dont know whether to go for US or UK webhosting.

I live in the UK, so the hosting packages from 1&1 UK would at first glance be best.

But if you look at the price (when converted from $$ to pounds) and the added bandwidth 1&1 USA seems like the best option

Does anyone know any reason why i shouldent get the USA hosing while i'm in the uk?

Any help on this subject much appreciated
Thanks,
DK999k.

You should read their site and if it is not clear maybe write to them and ask them where there data centers are located, the 1&1 Uk data center may be located in the USA as well, you need to chcck that.
Other points to consider, it may cost a bit more to use 1&1 UK but that may entitle you to local telephone support, which would be much costlier if you had to dial a US number, so you may want to look into that as well.

Thanks for the advice ian... i emailed 1&1 and they replied this:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting us.

We do understand your concern however, UK prices are intended for all
UK customers or
those who are interested in signing up for our UK hosting packages.

However, you have choices to where to sign up for hosting packages be
it in US or UK.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us.
Not much help from 1&1 there then.

I also looked into what you said. The data centre for 1&1UK is in the UK. And you are right about the telephone support costs, it would be quite expensive to call the US if anything goes wrong.

So it seems that the UK is my only realistic option and i will definitely go with 1&1UK...

(But the extra 30GB of bandwidth from 1&1USA is still tepting me )

Thanks for the help ian.

yeah, but how much transfer (not bandwidth) will you realistically need? most web sites don't even use up 1 GB in the course of a month.

Bandwidth/Data Transfer... Same Thing...

True... but i'm gonna be controling about 4/5 sites on that package. most of the sites are just gonna be normal. But one site is gonna have downloads etc... But even with the downloads i'll probably only use 10/12GB MAX. But its just nice to know that you'll probably never need to pay for extra data transfer ever. And the extra 30GB from 1&1USA will ensure that.

But i've made up my mind to go with 1&1UK... (unles you can change my mind with some info i should know...)

actually they are two very different things. *shrug* but whatever...

i used to enjoy 1&1 hosting here in germany. had a dedicated server threw them. boy what a mistake that was. due to their mistake i ended up losing a lot of money. i don't want to say they are a bad company since most people are more than satisfied with them, but i would never give them my business again.

Well, I think that 1&1 are amazing. They supply really cheap domains and reliable hosting, it is a shame that zkiller had a bad experience with them

Well - they seem like a nice company to me :-)

They don't mention anything about PHP, MySQL and other things you would need to with an OS CMS - but seem to be offering a really good deal for "first web page" customers.
