ok guys i have found a php web template i want to use. what do i need so i can edit it on my hard drive? php? is there any freeware php/html editers? i am descent at html and want to start teaching my self some php.

Check out this link (http://hapedit.free.fr/) its a free php asp...editor. Maybe download a trial version of dreamweaver 8 i no the last dreamweaver isnt very good with php but i think the new one is supposed to be better.

What format is the PHP template in - pear .tpl or what?
If you want to run PHP scripts on your PC you'll need a web server running (Of course I recommend apache). You'll also need a database server (I would go for MySQL) and to administer the database you should probably use SQL yog.

By the way this set up is completely FREE.

It can be tricky to configure an Apache/MySQL/PHP server, so I strongly suggest you donwload a preconfigured 'package' such as phpdev (http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpdev5)
