View Full Version : Shopping cart question
Hi everyone I have a client who needs a shopping cart. He sells computer systems. The problem is that with each system he offers upgrades. For example the customer could choose a bigger hard drive or monitor or something. So then the price would need to be updated to show the new total and also let him know what the customer ordered.
I hope this makes sense.
Can normal shopping carts do this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if there is something off the shelf available to suit your needs, I have seen quite a few good oscommerce sites, including cptnwinky's old lightaudio site which I believe Chroder did.
I would probably keep things simple and use a normal shopping cart, most of which just have a "continue shopping" button which allows the user to go back and add new items to their shopping cart. A good example of a computer tech type site which uses oscommerce can be found here

Thank you Ian, I'm just looking into a plugin for oscommerce that looks hopeful.

I used to swear by oscommerce but lately have been converted to zen cart. It's really just a scaled down version of oscommerce but so easy to configure and just as powerful. The clients seem to like it very much. It will do what you need.

Thank Stephanie, I'll take a look at that one as well.
Well I ended up using oscommerce. For such a popular script it sure is hard to modify the way it looks!

That's one of the things I didn't like about it... it can be done but it sure is a pain.
