Submitting to directories will not directly help your Page Rank from an SEO perspective.
However, by submitting to directories you may see an increase in site traffic. Kazoo

Directory submission is a good way to generate one-way links. You can also generate traffic from submitting to popular directories.

Google gives little or no weight to Links from directories.
They virtually do not count. In my humble opinion, if you have to go out and submit to hundreds of directories just to 'try' and get PR, then there is something very wrong with your on-site SEO. However, by submitting your site to good directories and also submitting your articles to good reputable article directories, this way people can find your site see that you have good solid content and naturally Link to you. This is the only way it could help your PR. Just merely having your site listed for a "link" purpose is not going to change anything, because as I said previously google virtually "dis-counts" directory links.

Why would you put a "no-follow" on an Inbound Link??? Even if google gave weight to directory Links...which they dont...your directory link would be dis-counted. The whole point of having an Inbound link is so that the Search Engine algorythm can follow the link..otherwise how on earth is it going to know where the link came from or the PR of the linking page so that you get some of the link juice?? If you have "no-follow" you will automatically disqualify any inbound link!

directory submissions are still important as they vary your backlink sources however search engines have devalued many directory sites. I would suggest you get your website listed in human reviewed directories as google knows who these are.
