optimize your on-page by means of keyword research and then choose your targeted keywords, title tag etc...
and then after on-page go to off-page optimization..

market your site..

You need a good web statistics application that will list the keyword phrases used by the users. Yes, there are some apps that will track specific keywords and site placement on given SEs. The bottom line is really what keyword phrases convert the best for the client.

There are two things you'll need to do:

1) install google analytics code onto your pages
http://www.google.com/analytics/

You will need to put a few lines of code (google will supply once you register) at the end of each page. Once that is done then you can get statistics on page hits etc.

2) Set you site up with google webmaster tools:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/

Register your site here and you can get info on how you page features on google searches.

For a paid program I suggest Advanced Website Rankings. I use this program with all my clients' websites. Basically, you type in the keywords that you want to know if you are listed for and it runs the report. Then, each new report compares the stats to the previous one allowing you to know if you went up or down in the rankings.
