Hello,

I am looking for a clear explanation of RSS/ATOM.

I have no idea what it does! I would also appreciate someone explaining to me what simplepie does.

RSS/atom allows you to syndicate your content threw a feed which people can subscribe to.

an rss feed looks like this http://www.mfinch.ca/blog/?feed=rss2

what would be the advantages of including this in my blog?

Allowing users easy access to your content. They can use other sites and feed viewers to access your site. IT will help you promote your web site. It allows people to subscribe to your content very easily and it makes syndication easier.
