Arrow About Finding Freelance Work

Where can a designer go to bid for design projects? Has anyone had sucess with freelance job websites where you bid on potential clients in need of design services?

It seems that well established companies scoop up all the work. Plus Guru.com charges $150 a year to upgrade to a basic member! But what about the free ones? Any positive experiences?

I've used http://freelancers.net/

Only for if you're in the UK though

you can go to getafreelancer.com... there are many projects you can bid there or you can also use odesk.com. you just have to be patient to wait though before landing into a worthwhile job. ^^
