I am working on building my first blog system, using PHP alongside a MySQL database running on an Ubuntu server. This is my first time building any project like this from scratch, and I am looking for some pointers/suggestions to help me build a better site.

So, what features or functions do you like in a blog? Also, suggestions regarding how to go about performing various tasks on a code and database level are greatly appreciated.

I don't have the server online yet, so I don't have a live example of my current progress for critiquing, however I will gladly post such material as needed upon request.

Additionally, this blog will be part of the website I am building for my Senior Graduation Project at my high school, so you can expect a special thanks to be included when the site goes live.
