Invoking JavaScript onUnload event

Hi,
I am currently trying to set up an JS event where, upon leaving a web page a loading spinner (http://fgnass.github.com/spin.js/#?l...l=65&speed=1.5) is displayed as the next page loads. I have tried several different positions and arrangements of the necessary code in order to make it happen and it just hasn't been working. How and where do I place the code from the above link in order for it to function?

P.S. - I suspect that I may be misplacing the onUnload function so any insight on how to write the proper syntax for that would also be great.
