How does this Website work?

I would like this thread to be a discussion on how different websites with complicated functionality work. Or how people could envisage the functionality being implemented.

To get the ball rolling this website below has troubled me as to how it works, I don't know whether it crawls add banners and if it does, how does it do it?

Not sure but there are websites such as TinEye and Google Image search, which may contribute to hope this works. OR they may follow the ads and see which URL they end up at.
Their FAQ states:
