Those aren't worth anything. The only meaningful thing you can do is go to college and get a degree.

I think a good portfolio will beat a diploma any time. Especially in a market of webdesign which is a lot like graphic design.

If you want to work for a company, a good portfolio can speak a thousand words where as a graduation paper only means you are good at doing what you are suppose to do and getting a few good grades

i'm not saying having a graduation paper isnt worth anything, but i think most clients won't really care about it if you got a good portfoio.

my two cents

grtz,

Feint

@Ronaldroe, I have a degree in Computer Science from Lagos State University.

I just want to get professionally certified because this is what i love doing.

Thanks, Benjamin.Morgan and Feint. I will check it out right away.

Thanks,

W3Schools is always criticized for being a terrible source of information. It would be like being certified by Paris Hilton on how to deal with PR.

The consensus seems to be that there are no worthwhile certifications for web designers. If you absolutely want to get certified, go for AdWords Certified Specialist or certified Zend Engineer.

The rest is a waste of time, not to say these two will do anything for you.

I have a CS degree as well, in my eyes it makes your more than qualified. You'd be better spending your time seeking work and building your portfolio, that's all employers/clients want to see.

If you want a worthwhile degree get one in graphic design. Then youll have the double whammy of cs/gd...combine that with a shithot portfolio and youll be getting decent work. Continually learn what u can re:webdesign.
Download and read and learn all the specs from w3.org ( which is NOT affiliated with the inferior w3schools) build up a library of designs, concepts, and inspiration make ideas all the time, even when you dont have clients. Push your boundaries daily and dont rest on your laurels or think you know it all, and of course grow a thick skin and THRIVE on the criticism, but dont take OFFENSE to it. What doesnt kill us only makes us stronger...

Very well said! Definitely, having a degree will mean a lot as a back up on your portfolio on acquiring a decent work! Thus, one must not stop learning because knowledge is never ending!

i agree, i just went to the WC3 Schools site and took their "quiz" and it is ridiculously easy, i dont think anyone would hold any weight in it. Just my 2 cents
