What would someone need to take over a businesses domain name? Say a gas station with a domain name of biofuels.com wants a re design... They want to ditch their old web designer and get a re design from me. What would they need to obtain for their domain name to be transfered?
Thanks, Joe |

The domain would have to be unlocked by the current registrar, then the current registrar would have to send the owner of the domain the EPP-code. After that, contact the new registrar andgive them the EPP-code. The domain should be transferred within 5 days.

depends. if they are happy with their current hosting package as well then as long as you've got ftp access to the hosting you can just upload the new and disregard the old. easy.
if they need new hosting then once you've organised that, you'll need to get the domain pointing to your new hosting. this is a pretty simple process if you've got the domain registrar login details a well, so you can change the nameserver details. not all websites have their domains locked with the registrar, but if they do and YOU ARE WANTING TO CHANGE REGISTRARS AS WELL, then it'll happen like fabster mentioned...hope that helps |

They don't actually need to transfer their domain to you - they can just change the nameservers on the domain so that it will point to a different hosting provider (meaning to your hosting account)

If you are just redesigning their site, the domain should not need to be transferred at all.
If you will also be hosting their site then they will need to point the domain to your nameserver settings.
