I realise this is a very old thread BUT there is an error in it.

Quote:
Relative Position
Element is positioned in the normal html flow of the page and can be adjusted using the "top, right, bottom, and left" values.
relative positioning does not actually work like that.

The box created by the element stays in the same position as it would be when static and occupies the same space in the document flow at that location. It is the content area that simply DISPLAYS in an offset position according to the values.

hi all - new to the forum and going to be spending the next few days browsing its information. In the meantime, perhaps you may be able to help with an issue (or lead to a tutorial to help) I am having with my site. www.top-marks.org.uk, its a basic but functional site and I want to put the facebook "like box" along the right hand side of the page (like the one on www.sillybomb.com). I am also aware of some positioning issues with ff and IE, so again any guidance would be appreciated. In the meantime, great forum, hope to be around a while

You probably need to know that the best way to get answers to questions is to start your own thread rather than hijacking a thread that is pinned as a reference.

It's not an error, it simply could be explained in more detail, like you have so mentioned. Thanks.

Default Nice reminder, thank!

Thanks for this little tut. It is a good reminder... I always get Static and Relative mixed up.

The CSS ranking qualities allow you to position a component. It can also position a component behind another, and specify what should occur when an element's material is too big
