I'm making this site as a favor to a friend, and I like how it's coming along so far, but I'm not sure what to do with the background. I also am thinking it needs a footer badly, it still looks a bit incomplete without it, but I haven't settled on what to do for the footer design.

So anyone have any ideas for what sort of thing would work for a background? I don't want it to distract from the header and contents too much. I've used just plain one color backgrounds often, maybe too often, and I'm thinking maybe something different is needed for this site. Or would getting away from the plain background just end up too distracting do you think?

The lighter green color is where contents will go, yes it's just empty space for now.

I'm also not sure about what to actual put where it currently says "guitars or more". It's sort of filler text, but I'm actually finding myself debating whether to keep it, at least for the main page, or put something else there.
