Default design load faster

I just designed a new web page for my own musical project:

http://dreagann.cz.cc

I think the design ain't that bad looking, but its loadtime is a real bummer. I could only come up with very big slices of the images, with the banner alone being 406kb large.. Together the homepage design is about 1mb large.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to reduce the load time for this design?

you need to compress the image more, sometimes that could be as simple as bringing the quality down (for jpgs anyways ... finer details disappear though) or using a selective color palette (for gifs) ...

but if that fails ... there are alot of open source jpg optimizers out there that can compress a jpg to redonkulously small sizes with little loss to the image quality.

The websites that have Faster Page Load Time and User Friendliness more than the websites that have Slow Page Load Time. Images are very useful in conveying the messages in a proper way, but these are also the factors affecting page load time.
